National Specialty Alloys provides accurately machined parts used in many marine applications. The components must be able to avoid seawater damage and can be processed to exact customer specifications; with superior durability, corrosion resistance, and dimensional stability, many of our alloys are perfectly suited for utilization in the Marine Industry. NSA supplies Boat Shaft Quality (BSQ) material to numerous companies; basically a boat shaft runs horizontally through the hull of the watercraft where its primary function is to connect the propeller to the power source. BSQ has precise requirements perfected and expected to be met by the Marine Industry. These requirements involve: a certain condition of the basic material (with enhanced metallurgical properties that benefit corrosive resistance and/or strength), an extremely specific outer diameter tolerance (based on the bearing size, usually with a plus and minus side), and a specific straightness as well as finish (improper machining can result in propeller vibrations). National Specialty Alloys has been successful due to our niche products, the first of which is our Pump Shaft Quality (PSQ) material which serves the Oil/Offshore Industries. PSQ material is extremely similar to BSQ and it was only natural for us to introduce it to our product line.
