The metal of choice in the food processing industry is stainless steel.

Nickel alloys are used in the airlines industry.

The other day I was sitting at the airport waiting for my flight and I was tired of playing Words with Friends on my smartphone so I walked to the big windows to check out the planes.  I watched these massive planes take off.  The amount of thrust the engines require to make the climb and create enough acceleration for the flaps to retract is beyond my non-engineering, non-mechanical, can’t do math brain to comprehend.  But what I did ponder about is something every airplane designer/engineer thinks about.  What material is used to create jet engines that is able to hold up under such extreme conditions?
