Stainless steel is an ideal choice for parking garages and storage dwellings.

England is filled with much excitement and enjoyment as tourists, athletes, fans and families from all over the world gather to enjoy the Olympic Games throughout London.  It is wonderful to witness the patriotism and pride spread throughout Great Britain.  It is even easily felt over 5 hours away in the countryside where locals watch the competition unfold from afar.  These may seem like two different worlds, Northern England and London, but they are the same.  They both include a shared patriotism and pride that is felt…and they both experience the infamous unpredictable English summer weather.

It is impossible not to notice the change of the weather that occurs in one day.  It goes from sprinkling to sunshine to cold providing visitors with all four seasons in 24 hours.  With that said, I started to wonder what type of material holds up under such unpredictable conditions.  Wood becomes torn and frayed while brick makes a shed look tired.  So what should one use for storage and parking dwellings in Great Britain?  Stainless steel holds up under extreme weather conditions making it ideal for the bustling city of London and the abundantly green Northern England border near Wales.

When unpredictable weather strikes, it is important to use material that keeps your vehicles, farming equipment and home improvement tools protected from weather damage.  Water, wind and snow can freeze, rust and permanently damage your belongings.  Instead of worrying about the cost of leaks, upkeep and repair choose stainless steel.  It is weather resistant, durable and does not disintegrate when water and extreme conditions come into direct contact with it.

Be smart like the London Olympics 2012 Committee by choosing stainless steel for your next project.

The London Olympics Committee for 2012 put into thought the roles types of steel would play in the creation for venues and public areas for the Olympic Games.  The main material chosen had to exhibit environmentally safe traits.  The Committee also took into consideration the concern the growing impact the selected metal would have on the land, nature and the people around it.  The Committee chose stainless steel for a wide array of reasons including it being a 100% recyclable metal.

Today I am going to share with you an insight of why stainless steel was chosen for the Olympics and why it is the right choice for your next home and/or business project.

When producing metal for a project much energy goes into the production process.  In the past, manufacturers and engineers wasted an abundant amount of energy on soldering, welding and implementing other techniques to get a selected metal just right.  Steel manufacturers took notice of this excessive energy it emitted so they decided to make a change.  Currently, stainless steel manufacturers evolved this technique and it is now an energy efficient process making it a high quality, cost-effective, energy saving, environmentally safe selection for you.

Stainless steel is an ideal sustainable material for your next project.

There are many reasons why stainless steel is an ideal choice for architects and engineers.  It is an environmentally friendly material that is visually pleasing, purposeful and adaptable to various industries, sizes and shapes.  Modern design seems to be relying upon it more than traditional materials for these reasons.  It can display different details and architectural looks while still delivering high quality, durable and corrosion-resistant traits.

2 Advantages to Choosing Stainless Steel

Reusable

If someone must tear down the material and rebuild over it without saving a building and/or project then the architect does not fret about the affects it has on the environment.  Stainless steel can be dissolved using specific methods.  Once this is completed, the material can be reused, reduced and recycled into something new ensuring the metal is not wasted or left to remain without purpose polluting the land.

Conserves Energy

Some building materials need to be treated before it is able to conserve energy.  For instance, if you do not use stainless steel material to transfer and preserve the coolness of an air conditioning then the results can be unpredictable.  Save yourself the headache.  Stainless steel comes with a highly solar reflective index value that does not need to be applied and reapplied.  It is a characteristic embedded into the metal meaning you do not have to waste time, money and material on reapplying and replacing it to ensure energy conservation.

There is a reason why stainless steel is used in kitchens. It does not contaminate our food and water.

All over the globe, health and environmental organizations and government officials are paying attention to the negative affect certain substances have on our hygienic food distribution and clean water supplies.  By doing much research and studying, it has been proven internationally that stainless steel does play a major role in keeping our food and drinks uncontaminated.  There is everything from stainless steel utensils, which do not corrode or alter in chemistry when touching our food preventing contamination from developing to water treatment steel pipes utilized in filtering waste from the water keeping our supplies clean.  The key is the metal’s attribute not to change, fray or decompose when coming in contact with beverages, food substances, protein, coloring and other nutritional elements that need proper care, processing and delivery.

It is essential for water to remain untainted ensuring the state of health and lives of people around the world.  The higher quality that is delivered to a region the more stable the health of that community becomes.  It is why the water treatment industry and global governments take strong measures to protect and stow treated water for long periods of time. To do this, water facilities must use a type of material that does not vary when managing water.  Stainless steel is able to fulfill this goal.

The Radisson Blu in Stockholm is the result of using stainless steel to highlight the environment.

The first use of the word “green” was utilized when referring to environmental movements from the 1970s.  It was a coined word that the masses thought stereotypical tree hugger organizations only used.  Well, the stereotype was not quite accurate for the environmental organizations were focused on improving the environment for all.  It wasn’t always a fabricated hippie-filled group, as some conservatives suggested.  There were environmentally driven organizations consisting of businessmen, politicians, families, community leaders and more.  And what the masses began to take note of was the word “green.” It was becoming a common word used outside of this specific realm.

Commercial and residential industries began to dabble in environmental research trying to find new ways to incorporate available products and services that co-exist in the world without damaging our surroundings.  Through this process the discovery of using stainless steel for “going green” was created.  Today, building designers, engineers and architects are choosing steel as the material of choice for their own projects.

Why Choose Steel?

Steel is an environmentally safe material.  It is able to remain sustainable without taking a toll on the setting around you.  This means it is able to contribute to the style and aesthetic aspect of a building while not losing any of its energy efficient and environmentally driven attributes.  For instance, when a building is destroyed in order to create a new one then the negative impact the demolition has on the environment decreases significantly when using this metal.

One hotel that exemplifies the use of stainless steel enhancing the beautiful natural setting is the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel in Stockholm Sweden.  This hotel is composed of 13 miles of translucent stainless steel rods.  They are a artistic interpretation of the sky and water.  These specific rods alter the skyline significantly and when looked at you may see a “reminiscence of the Nordic Light,” as stated by the architect himself Hans Forsmark.

The many benefits of using 304 stainless steel makes it a common choice for commercial and residential projects.

Using 304 stainless steel is a smart choice for your budget’s project and longevity.  It is cost-effective in comparison to other materials.  Its high quality and durability ensures that your product lasts a long time and the design of it is suitable for home and commercial use.

Size Does Matter

Think about what size you need the piece of steel and order it accordingly.  This steel grade can be bent and manipulated into a wide array of shapes and sizes.  Knowing exactly what you need makes the completion date of your project remain on track saving you time and money from having to order and purchase new pieces that do not quite fit in the designated areas.

The strength does not falter when this metal is molded and designed into the measurements you need.  The durability and longevity exists regardless.  It can hold up under extreme circumstances making it a common choice for architects and designers alike.  For instance, the Unisphere (which I have described in great detail in a prior blog) was created using 304 stainless steel.   This put the high level reliability characteristics of this steel in the spotlight.

Why the Food Industry Uses Stainless Steel

Posted on May 25, 2012 by Reda Abouleish

The metal of choice in the food processing industry is stainless steel.

Stainless steel comes in many different grades which are suitable for a wide array of industries.  You can use it for marine, oil and gas, construction and food industry.  Today that is what I am going to focus upon, the food industry.

The food industry has specific needs and requirements that need to be met.  The equipment needs to work effectively and be acceptable to specific food regulation guidelines.  The equipment needs to be easy to clean and manage itself in extreme heat and cold. The equipment has to be sterilized or have the ability to be frequently sterilized without any damage.  Different food acids should not affect it as well.  You do not want to shut down your business solely to replace a piece of equipment, again.  That is money lost on production, replacement and repairs.  Instead, make the wise business decision to switch your equipment to stainless steel.

This metal is used in food manufacturing and processing applications.  The most common grades are 304 and 316.  These are metals frequently chosen for on-contact equipment.  In other words, it is suitable for equipment that touches your food during the processing and manufacturing progression.  These two grades are considered austenitic.

If you choose the correct steel that was precisely designed to hold up under the industry demands then you eliminate the problem of corrosion.  The risk is minimized.  To prolong its life and corrosion resistance abilities choose wisely when it comes to the finish.  Smooth surface finishes for this metal are easy to keep clean which decreases the susceptibility it has to falling apart.
