309 Stainless Steel Bar
UNS S30900 (Grade 309)
309 stainless steel bar, also known as UNS S30900 and Grade 309, is an austenitic stainless steel comprised of 22% to 24% chromium, 12% to 15% nickel, .2% carbon, 2% maximum manganese, traces of phosphorus, silicon, and sulfur with the balance being iron. Grade 309 machines similarly to 304 but has superior strength and corrosion resistance. This alloy is known for good strength and oxidation resistance in continuous service temperatures up to 2000° F. Cold working this material will cause an increase in both hardness and strength, it does not respond to heat treatment.
