The metal of choice for the medical industry is stainless steel!

Stainless steel is the most common metal used in manufacturing medical equipment.  There is a wide array of reasons why.  Let us take a look at some of these examples and why it is the metal of choice for the medical industry.

As you could imagine, the medical field has extremely high requirements for sanitation and cleanliness.  This is the reason why steel is the predominant metal seen in emergency rooms and hospitals throughout the world.  Hospital beds, disposable buckets for needles/hazardous waste and hospital wheelchairs all use stainless steel.  That is only a small portion of uses stainless steel has in the medical field.

When in surgery, a patient’s body cannot come into contact with instruments susceptible to corrosion or metal that deteriorates under extreme heat.  Steel does not corrode or alter when exposed to extreme temperatures found during some surgical procedures and sterilization techniques.  It remains clean decreasing the odds of disease and infections from spreading keeping patients and the medical staff clean, safe and healthy.

Steel is also very cost-effective.  This is important to hospitals and medical centers.  They buy mass quantities of equipment, furniture and other needs; thus, the material chosen needs to be inexpensive, durable and long-lasting.  Steel fulfills all these requirements.
